Los valores que los hispanos defienden

Al contrastar la cultura hispana con la anglosajona, se observa que a
pesar de vivir en un mundo más integrado, los hispanos defienden el rol
de la pareja, la familia, la religión, la imagen y el trabajo. Si bien
en la última década, la nueva generación se ha ido adaptando al estilo
occidental, las raíces culturales todavía son dominantes  y prevalecen
al momento de actuar, es decir, ellos son los factores claves para
vivir, y como no, también para tomar decisiones.

No es casualidad que en las últimas semanas los candidatos a la
presidencia de Estados Unidos hayan estado buscando difundir más
propaganda en español, con imágenes donde se reflejan algunos de los
valores culturales de los hispanos. Algunas personas versadas en
asuntos políticos señalan que a medida que se vaya acercando la fecha
para elegir al nuevo presidente de este país, los candidatos tratarán
de incluir en sus discursos más temas de interés para los hispanos, a
fin de convencerlos de la bondad y generosidad de sus propuestas.

Una forma de ayudar a decidir al potencial votante hispano, quien
todavía no ha elegido a su candidato, es recurriendo a sus valores. El
señor Barack Obama es conocido por su ideología liberal en la cual el
aborto, el matrimonio entre personas del mismo sexo, y la apertura a
diferentes religiones son defendidas. Para el candidato del Partido
Demócrata, el cambio es percibido como sinónimo de libertad absoluta,
la misma que más parece libertinaje. Todo esto contrasta radicalmente
con lo que los hispanos defienden, como la defensa a la vida del que
está por nacer, el matrimonio entre personas de sexos opuestos, la
religión como expresión de fe y no de fundamentalismos que terminan en
terrorismo, y mucho más.

El candidato republicano, senador John McCain, por el contrario,
defiende el concepto de familia formada por un hombre y una mujer, y
rechaza el aborto en todos los casos excepto cuando peligra la vida de
la madre. Además, el señor McCain ha confesado su fe abiertamente, y
sin titubeos ha dicho que Estados Unidos debe conservar aquellos
valores que lo han hecho grande. Como una prueba de ello, ha elegido a
la señora Sarah Palin para que le ayude a gobernar. Como se sabe, la
señora Palin está atrayendo adherentes de todos los sectores por su
forma de ser y por el tipo de lenguaje que está usando para
comunicarse. Una mujer sencilla, creyente, exitosa, esposa y madre, 
defiende los mismos valores que los hispanos.

El interés común debe basarse en el bienestar de cada uno, o en todo
caso, en el de la mayoría. Los hispanos tienen su propia identidad
reflejada en sus valores culturales. El panorama político actual, con
dos candidatos, muestra claramente qué opción  de gobierno rescata
mejor los valores de los hispanos, y por eso debemos apoyarla en las
próximas elecciones presidenciales

Values Hispanics Defend

When contrasting Hispanic with Anglo-Saxon culture, it is observed
that, in spite of living in a more integrated world, Hispanics defend
the role of the couple, family, religion, image, and work. Although, in
the past decade, the new generation has been adapting to the western
style, the cultural roots are still dominant and prevail at the moment
of acting. That is to say, they are the key factors to live by, and,
why not, also to make decisions by.

It is not by chance that in the past weeks the candidates to the
presidency of the United States have been seeking to broadcast more
propaganda in Spanish with images where some of the cultural values of
the Hispanics are reflected. Some people well versed on political
matters point out that as the date to choose the new president of this
country comes closer, the candidates will try to include in their
speeches more topics of interest for Hispanics, in order to convince
them of the kindness and generosity of their proposals.

A way of helping the potential Hispanic voter who has not yet chosen
his or her candidate to decide, is appealing to his or her values. Mr.
Barack Obama is known for his liberal ideology in which abortion,
marriage between people of the same gender, and opening up to different
religions are defended. For the candidate of the Democratic Party,
change is perceived as synonym to absolute freedom, the same one that
seems more like debauchery. All this radically contrasts with what
Hispanics defend, such as the life of the one about to be born,
marriage between people of opposite gender, religion as an expression
of faith and not of fundamentalisms that ends up in terrorism, and much
more.

The republican candidate, Senator John McCain, on the contrary, defends
the concept of the family formed by a man and a woman, and rejects
abortion in all cases except when the mother's life is in danger. Also,
Mr. McCain has admitted his faith openly, and without hesitations. He
has said that the United States should conserve those values that have
made it great. As a proof of it, he has chosen Mrs. Sarah Palin to help
him to govern. As it is known, Mrs. Palin is attracting adherents from
all sectors because of the kind of person she is and because of the
type of language she is using to communicate. A simple woman, a
believer, successful, wife and mother, who defends the same values that
the Hispanics do.

Common interest should be based on the well-being of one another, or,
in any event, in that of the majority. Hispanics have their own
identity reflected in their cultural values. The current political
panorama, with two candidates, shows clearly which government
option best rescues the values of the Hispanics, and for that reason we
should support it in the next presidential elections.
