Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park Production of Around the World in 80 Days to Move to Off-Broadway at Irish Repertory Theatre

(CINCINNATI) – The Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park’s production of Jules Verne’s classic novelAROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS, adapted by Mark Brown, will transfer to off-Broadway’s Irish Repertory Theatre for an eight-week run this July. This high-spirited, fast-moving and highly imaginative show begins previews on July 11, opens July 20 and continues through September 5.

According to Director Michael Evan Haney, “We’re very excited that Around the World in 80 Days will transfer to off-Broadway. Audiences here have truly embraced this delightful comedy and we are sure that it will be a continued success at the Irish Repertory Theatre. The cast, crew and designers have been an exceptional company to work with.”

The Cincinnati cast for AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS will transfer to the Irish Repertory Theatre. The cast includes Daniel Stewart (SHERLOCK HOLMES: THE FINAL ADVENTURE, TWELTH NIGHT) as Phileas Fogg, Evan Zes as Passepartout/John Sullivan, John Keating as Detective Fix/numerous characters, Lauren Elise McCord as Aouda/numerous characters, Jay Russell (THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, THE MYSTERY OF IRMA VEP, A CHRISTMAS CAROL) as a variety of characters and Mark Parenti as Musician /Foley Artist. The director for the show is Associate Artistic Director Michael Evan Haney.

Other members of the production team are Joseph P. Tilford (set designer), David Kay Mickelsen (costume designer), Betsy Adams (lighting designer), David Andrew Levy (sound designer), Rich Cole (casting director) and Mark Parenti (original music).

AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS combines 24,000 miles, 39 characters and five actors in two fun-filled hours. Via rail, boat and even elephant, Mr. Fogg must travel the globe in just 80 days or he will forfeit a fortune. But a snooping detective, a possible human sacrifice, a runaway train and even the will of Mother Nature all conspire against his adventure of a lifetime, threatening not only his journey but also the heart of the woman he loves.

Recognized with the 2007 Jujamcyn Theatres Award, a special Drama Desk Award for “Excellence in Presenting Distinguished Irish drama” and the Lucille Lortel Award for "Outstanding Body of Work," the Irish Repertory Theatre has celebrated the very best in Irish theatre for fifteen years, from the masters to the new generation of Irish and Irish-American writers who are transforming the stage.

Artists fly to and from Cincinnati on Delta Connection Comair, the Playhouse’s official airline.

The Playhouse is supported, in part, by the generosity of the tens of thousands of individuals and businesses that give to the Fine Arts Fund.

The Ohio Arts Council helps fund the Playhouse with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans.
