Key Job Responsibilities:
The Mentor Site Manager (Production Manager) will be responsible for Safety, Customer Focus, Quality, Service and Productivity in two manufacturing facilities. Both facilities are located in Mentor, Ohio adjacent to one another. One of the plants is fully operational with approximately 110+employees (Hrly, Nonexempt and Salaried) and the other site will begin one shift of operation in early 2008. Both facilities are approximately 50,000 square feet. Production capabilities include coating, slitting, and converting, and supply the Medical, Industrial and Consumer Products businesses. The plant operates on two schedules, 8 hour/day on 3 shifts and 12 hour/day 3 shifts with weekend production. The Mentor Site Manager reports to the Regional Operations Manager and will have direct line responsibility for 3 Team Leaders, 3 Shift Team Leaders, a Process Engineering Associate, and indirect responsibility for 80 operations personnel. This position will be interface with multiple support functions including EH&S, Finance, HR, Process Engineering, Product Development, and Quality. This individual will also be a key decision maker/resource for the other functional areas present within the Mentor facility.

  • Manage all key aspects of assigned assets including knowledge of and improvement plans in: products, Customers, scrap/losses, quality, productivity, safety, and cost management
  • Communicate Values and Ethics training and expectations, lead by example
  • Work to create an injury-free workplace. Maintain environmental compliance. Drive culture change on safety through creation, implementation, and enforcement of new EH&S procedures and policies. Support the Safety First (behavioral-based safety) program

  • Develop and execute on a plan to manage and control plant costs and expenses
  • Develop and maintain strong communication between operations personnel and overall business
  • Provide leadership in facilitating training, coaching/counseling, and expectation setting for team members in environmental health & safety, quality, equipment operations, troubleshooting, teamwork, productivity and equipment maintenance
  • Collaborate with technical, materials support/logistics, and marketing and sales teams in resolving problems and developing improved manufacturing processes
  • Develop initiatives which will further create a culture of Growth, Productivity, and People development
  • Ensure continuous individual development of all team members through the GPS process
  • Provide team with performance measurement tools and expectations to report critical operating parameters including quality, service, safety, productivity, and cost effectiveness
  • Build leadership talent / Recruits, hires, coaches, and develops talent at all levels of the organization
  • Ensure effective communication through both manufacturing facilities
  • Ensure Product, Production, and Plant SOC’s and SOP’s are accurate, appropriate and followed
  • Support/Drive resolution of Customer complaints and CAPA's. Drive continuous improvement on product quality
  • Establish and implement annual operating plan (AOP: volume, time, and cost). Drive productivity and capacity increases, scrap/loss reduction, and cost reduction

Position Requirements:

    EDUCATION REQUIRED:
  • Bachelors degree in operations, supply chain or materials management, business, engineering, or similar
    EDUCATION PREFERRED:
  • Masters Degree in business management
    EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • 5-8 years solid business experience in a progressive manufacturing environment.
  • At least 3 years of experience managing exempt (salary) employees.
  • Experience working in a Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing environment
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong competence in the following areas: Honesty and integrity, team oriented, results driven, innovative, risk taker
  • Ability to work comfortably within a fast-paced and matrixed organizations, built around team concepts and structures and the ability to deal with constantly changing internal and external environments
  • Proven change agent with strong and clear communication skills
  • Strong understanding of financial systems and the key drivers within the manufacturing environment
    EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
  • Strong knowledge/experience with FDA regulations and GMP are required
  • General business knowledge within the medical converting or pressure sensitive industries
  • Physical Requirements:
    Travel: Frequent travel between 3 sites, located within a 7-mile radius. Visit to Customers and Suppliers as necessary (est. <10%)
